Glaze Recipes

Here are some of our favorite glaze recipes

Please note: You must match your glazes
 to your particular clay body and firing range

Examples: 1) For Raku firings, you can use Raku clay or
stoneware with Raku glazes

2) Low fired pieces in the 03 - 06 range using low fire
 earthenware clay require low fire 03 -06 glazes

3) High firing pieces usually at cone 6 and above; require
a stoneware cone 6, porcelain,
 or Raku clay body with glazes matching the cone 6 or above firing temperature ranges

The following set of glazes are from a Ceramics Monthly article by
 Gerald Rowan
Summer Issue 1985
"To quote the article"

These simple reduction glazes are based on no more than four major ingredients.  Most of these recipes works well in single firing; many lend themselves to salt or vapor glazing applications as well.
These glazes may also be used as a basis for tests to develop recipes for firing at
Cones 5 - 7 reduction.

 Line blend tests using 5% - 15% of an equal - parts mixture of barium carbonate, dolomite, Gerstley borate and zinc oxide should result in interesting lower - temperature glazes.
